Pigeon Proofing, Witney, Oxfordshire
This below photo shows an example of the installation of bird netting on a very large scale. This international company (based in Witney, Nr Oxford) had for several years fought a small problem with pigeons roosting on top of the girders in the loading canopy and had previously used several methods, all with little or no success. The solution: 1 very large net (200m x 25m) split into 8 sections and installed with a combination of girder clips and cladding bolts and fixed together with the use of a pneumatic hogringer.
The below photo linked to the above shows one of our workers installing the pigeon netting horizontally below the main girders. Health and Safety is a priority with any work we carry out and this photo shows an example of this. In the majority of cases we will use a cherry picker/hoist over a ladder for access and will always use a marked high visibility jacket, hard hat and steel capped shoes. When using hoists or other access methods a harness with the appropriate lanyard will be used.
